Rules That Go With Your Label
- TCS foods also need the date made on the label and, on the label or receipt, 'SAFE HANDLING INSTRUCTIONS: To prevent illness from bacteria, keep this food refrigerated or frozen until the food is prepared for consumption' in at least 12-point font.
- A unique batch number is required for pickled fruit or vegetables, fermented vegetable products, and plant-based acidified canned goods.
- Unpackaged foods: give the label information on an invoice or receipt.
- Cottage food vendors must show the same disclosure on a sign near the point of sale, and vendor-sold products need the date made.
Common Texas Label Mistakes
- Selling refrigerated (TCS) foods without the date made and the safe handling instructions in at least 12-point type.
- Leaving out the batch number on pickled, fermented or acidified canned goods.
- Missing the point-of-sale sign with the same disclosure at events.

You can design the visual layout in Canva or Word, but neither can auto-generate your ingredient list, detect allergens, or add Texas's required disclosure statement. You'd need to compile all of that manually. Quickly Cottage handles it automatically for Texas and all 50 states.
